Whao is the Māori word for Chisel.
Whao are a significant tool in Māori culture, being used to create some of the world's most intricate wood carvings.
Māori have used Whao for hundreds of years - often crafted from Pounamu because of its inherent strength in the layering of the Jade. Post European Contact, Whao were also made from iron that would have been traded with the first European Settlers.
The Whao is a great gift for the craftsperson in your life.
This Whao is created from a beautiful piece of Pounamu, from right here in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
