Megalodon Tooth - Puhoro - Carnelian

$800.00

This Taonga is based on a Megalodon Tooth fossil - it is carved from a brilliantly translucent rock called Carnelian, found here in Aotearoa, NZ - around the region of Coromandel, amongst other locations.

Megalodon Tooth Fossils are commonly found around the World, but there are hotspots in and around South Carolina, USA.

This Taonga features intricate beveled notches on the sides - tapering smaller in both directions. It also features light surface pattern work in the form of Pūhoro - which symbolizes the tides, ripples, and waves of the ocean. Puhoro is often used to adorn Waka / Canoes.
