The Rei Puta is a very old style of Taonga - dating back to before European contact in Aotearoa.
Rei Puta were traditionally made using a Sperm Whale's Tooth (Niho = Tooth).
The surface patterning is a loose version of Pūhoro - connecting to the tides, and currents of the Ocean.
This Rei Puta is crafted from a piece of Pounamu / Jade, from here in Aotearoa, NZ.
